In Boulder, Colorado, a man accused of attacking a march for Israeli hostages on Sunday now faces numerous criminal charges. The 45-year-old suspect, Mohamed Soliman, was officially charged in court on Thursday afternoon. The charges include 118 state-level criminal charges, with serious accusations like attempted murder, assault, and the use of explosives. Soliman’s actions on Sunday have shocked the community, leaving multiple victims with serious injuries.
Formal Charges Filed Against Mohamed Soliman
Soliman, who appeared via live stream from the Boulder County Jail, faces a total of 118 criminal charges. Among these charges are 28 counts of attempted first-degree murder. These charges are broken down into two categories: 14 counts with extreme indifference and 14 after deliberation. In addition, Soliman is charged with 14 counts of first-degree assault, two counts related to the use of explosives, and 14 counts of attempting to use such devices. He is also facing 60 violent crime sentence enhancers, including charges involving crimes against vulnerable individuals, such as at-risk adults.
Soliman’s Arrest and Upcoming Federal Charges
The incident occurred during a peaceful march held by the group “Run for Their Lives,” which advocates for the release of Israeli hostages taken during the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. Witnesses say Soliman threw Molotov cocktails at the group, injuring 15 people and a dog. The victims, ranging in age from 25 to 88, were seriously injured, and two individuals had to be airlifted to a burn unit. Soliman was arrested at the scene without any resistance.
Soliman is currently being held on a $10 million bond at the Boulder County Jail. The case is still in its early stages, with Soliman due back in court on July 15. In addition to the state charges, Soliman faces federal hate crime charges. These will be addressed in a separate federal court case, which is expected to continue soon.
The Community’s Response to the Attack
Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty expressed his pride in the investigation efforts and the support shown by the community. He emphasized the importance of working together during challenging times and reassured the public that justice will be pursued. Soliman’s charges are expected to be expanded as the investigation progresses.
As of Thursday, three victims remain hospitalized from the attack. Investigators continue to piece together evidence from video footage and witness accounts, which indicate Soliman’s involvement in the attack using gasoline-filled Molotov cocktails.
The attack on the march for Israeli hostages has left the Boulder community in shock, but the authorities are taking strong action to ensure justice. Mohamed Soliman faces a variety of charges, ranging from attempted murder to assault and the use of explosives. As Soliman’s case progresses through both state and federal courts, it is clear that the full scope of his actions will be thoroughly examined, and further charges may be brought against him.
