Man jailed for allegedly attempting to flee with Colorado 8-year-old: “May I borrow your child?”

A 34-year-old man was arrested on Saturday after allegedly attempting to kidnap an 8-year-old girl in a Littleton grocery store. The incident occurred at the Safeway store located at 5025 South Kipling Parkway, where the man allegedly approached the girl’s grandmother and attempted to take the child.

The Attempted Kidnapping Incident

According to a press release from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), the grandmother was shopping in the produce section when the man walked up to her and her granddaughter.

He reportedly placed his hands on the girl’s shoulders and said something like, “May I borrow your child?” He then began walking the girl out of the store.

The grandmother quickly reacted, yelling at the man. The girl broke free from his grip and ran back to her grandmother. The man, however, attempted to take the child again by re-entering the store.

At this point, store staff stepped in, shouting at the man and preventing him from leaving with the girl. The man then fled the store and drove away.

Quick Response and Arrest

Jefferson County deputies were able to locate the suspect, Bradley Mikel Wilson, just a few miles away from the scene, near the intersection of U.S. 285 and Willow Springs Road. Wilson was arrested and taken into custody on charges of 2nd Degree Kidnapping.

Fortunately, neither the girl nor her grandmother were injured during the incident.

Court Appearance Scheduled

Wilson is scheduled to appear in a Jefferson County courtroom on Monday to face the charges. The quick response from the store staff and law enforcement authorities helped prevent what could have been a tragic situation.
