HADORN: 2022-25 Coahoma softball will be discussed for decades

The Coahoma Bulldogettes have become one of the most unforgettable softball teams in Texas history. From 2022 to 2025, they made their mark by winning three straight state championships, a first in UIL softball history. On Thursday night, they secured their third consecutive title with a 6-1 win against Lexington in the Class 3A Division II championship game held in Austin.

Coahoma’s Historic Win and Competition

While the Class 4A Division I team Calallen also won its third straight state championship the following day, Coahoma’s achievement remains historic. The Bulldogettes proved their strength and skill with a powerful performance and a complete team effort.

Stars of the Team: Hannah Wells and Mia Clemmer

A big reason why this Coahoma team is so memorable is the contribution of two future Texas Longhorns—Hannah Wells and Mia Clemmer. Both players impressed fans in the championship game played at the Longhorns’ home field.

Wells had an outstanding game, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two runs scored, and a walk. She also pitched seven strong innings, allowing only one run and striking out eight batters. Clemmer, who also signed with Texas, went 2-for-4, including a home run and two RBIs.

Wells has a record-breaking high school career with 87 home runs and 876 strikeouts. For the second time in her career, she was named the state championship game MVP. Clemmer praised Wells, saying, “She made a statement, and she always does when she is in the box or in the circle. It is greatness.”

Team Effort Wins the Day

The Bulldogettes showed they are not just about big hits; they can also play smart “small ball.” In the fourth inning, they scored two runs using bunts, hit-by-pitches, sacrifice plays, intentional walks, and stolen bases. One key play was when Neveah Kerby reached second base on a bunt, allowing Emery Doporto to score from third.

Lexington also tried to use small ball, but Coahoma’s strategy worked better. Clemmer said, “We put our bunts down really good today and moved runners over to let our big hitters drive them in.”

Senior Players and Team Records

The senior players, including Wells, Kerby, Baylor Wright, Kaedyn Lee, and Avery Rodriguez, finished their four-year careers with an impressive 132 wins, 9 losses, and 1 tie. They joined a small group of teams that have played in four straight state championship games.

Coahoma also set a state record with a 90-game winning streak from 2023 until this year’s semifinal. This season, they outscored opponents by 379 to 26—a truly dominant performance.

A Dream Come True

Mia Clemmer described winning three straight titles as “surreal” and said, “We put in the work for this and we’re just so thankful. We’ve worked very hard for this moment, and for it to finally come true, it’s a dream come true.”
