Texas power Calallen becomes the only UIL softball team to three-peat in less than a day, joining Coahoma in historic company

Corpus Christi Calallen’s softball team is making history again. After winning the Class 4A Division I state championship on May 30, 2025, they earned their third Texas state title in just three years. The Lady Wildcats beat Andrews 9-2 at McCombs Field in Austin, showing that their winning streak is far from over.

A Historic Weekend for Texas Softball

Earlier on May 29, the Coahoma Bulldogettes made history by winning their third straight state championship in Class 3A Division II. But just one day later, Calallen joined them by winning their third consecutive title too. This means two teams in Texas softball history won three championships in a row — something no team had ever done before.

The timing of the games meant Coahoma got their win first, but Calallen quickly followed, keeping the excitement high in Texas softball.

Strong Performances Help Calallen Win

Calallen’s coach made a smart decision before the final game. Instead of starting their usual pitcher, senior Bianca Gonzales, they started junior Jordyn Thibodeaux, who has committed to McNeese State. Thibodeaux pitched five strong innings, allowing only one hit and striking out nine batters without giving up any runs.

Gonzales came in to pitch the last two innings and helped secure the win, showing the team’s depth and skill.

Standout Players in the Championship Game

Junior Braelyn Bailey was a big star in the final game. She hit two important hits, including a grand slam home run, and had six runs batted in (RBI). Even though she didn’t get a chance to hit a second grand slam, she was named the MVP of the championship game because of her amazing performance.

The Future Looks Bright for Calallen and Coahoma

Both Calallen and Coahoma are aiming to keep making history by trying to win four state titles in a row. Calallen looks like a strong favorite because most of their players from the championship team will return next year, except for a few seniors.

Even though Calallen faced some tough moments during the 2025 season, like losing a 90-game winning streak and being shut out twice in the playoffs, they showed their strength when it mattered most and won the championship.

Corpus Christi Calallen’s softball team has proven they are one of the best in Texas with three state titles in a row. Their teamwork, smart coaching, and talented players helped them overcome challenges and make history. With many young players returning, Calallen has a great chance to keep winning and make even more history in the coming years.
