A large house fire broke out on Thursday evening in Brighton, Colorado, leaving two people injured and several pets missing. Firefighters worked hard to rescue the residents and stop the flames from spreading to nearby homes.
Fire Breaks Out on 138th Place
The fire started around 6:05 p.m. on 138th Place. Many neighbors quickly called 911 to report heavy smoke and flames. Brighton Fire Rescue rushed to the scene and found two people still inside the burning home.
Firefighters were able to rescue them and they were taken to the hospital. Their injuries are being treated, but officials have not yet shared how serious those injuries are.
Firefighters From Multiple Departments Respond
Several fire departments came together to fight the blaze. Teams from Thornton, South Adams, and Fort Lupton Fire Departments joined Brighton firefighters to help control the situation. Because the fire was so intense and fast-moving, water had to be brought in and shuttled to the area.
High Winds Made the Fire Worse
Officials said that strong winds made the fire much worse, causing it to spread quickly through the home. Thick smoke from the fire could be seen from more than a mile away. The home suffered major damage, and firefighters believe it might be completely destroyed.
Pets Still Missing
While the two people in the home were rescued, several of their cats are still missing. Fire crews are hoping that the pets may have escaped, but they have not been found yet.
Neighboring Home Saved
The fire also put a nearby home at risk, but thanks to the fast work of firefighters, they were able to stop the flames from spreading. That house was protected, and no further damage was reported there.
